Hello -

I'm looking for any information that someone can share with me about the Pulse 11 meter. I am considering the purchase of one - it would be my first glider. I am about to finish my Hang 1 training and just need some additional information about the wing.

Also, if you have an opinion about the cost of a used Pulse that would be great too.

Thanks,
Herb Benton

The Pulse 11M was my first glider after training. I had no problems at all in the transition. Its a great first glider. In some ways I wish I still had it.

not sure of what a good price is for one now. Hopefully some one will chime in on that.

Great first glider if you want a double surface.

Prices vary wildly based on location, condition and luck. Generally prices range from $800 to $2800 with about $1500 being average for one in decent shape.

I heard nothing but good things about the pulse when I was pricing gliders, I couldn't find one but the consensus was about $1200-1500 depending on condition of course. They have such a good rep sometimes demand can drive up the price.

I know lots of people on the org who strongly recommended the pulse.

With all the good things I've heard about the Pulse, and with demand seemingly high, I wonder why someone hasn't copied the design and started manufacturing them again. The sound like the perfect first glider and many people seem to hang on to them even after stepping up the performance ladder.

My instructor recommended a Pulse for my first wing... I ultimately bought a Mark IV (basically the same wing... It was excellent, easy to launch and land, a very forgiving wing... Wish I still had it... I miss her

Good Luck !!!

Hullo,
since it hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet:
I highly recommend you read the 'So, you want to buy a glider?' section on Red's webpage: http://www.xmission.com/~red/
As far as my limited experience can tell, he's one of the most venerable members of the .org, and his invaluable advice is worth every penny.

Your instructor should be well placed to advise whether that model is suitable for you personally, and I'd add that asking as many experienced people, (especially those who've seen you fly) for as many opinions as you can is a healthy thing to do.

The Airborne Sting, Northwing Illusion/Horizon, and the Moyes Sonic are basically that.

They did... :) It's called the Northwing Horizon ET.
http://www.northwing.com/products_hang_horizon.shtml
The Horizon ET glider is based on the ever-popular Vision style Hang Glider. For years, the Vision MK4 and Pulse (designed by Jean Michel Bernasconi of Pacific Air Wave) have been the staple in the industry for the new pilot's glider... Now we have one better! And Jean Michel Bernasconi agrees. ...
That said, when talking to my instructor, he recommended I get a Falcon 3 instead. And though at times I'm starting to look at the DS wings with envy, I'm incredibly happy with my F3. No doubt in my mind that I feel more comfortable and thus am learning quicker than if I was on any DS glider. Most pilots around where I live own both a Falcon and another glider, and manage to fly both (sometimes on the same day). I think my next wing will probably be a Sport 2 or similar, and I'll be keeping the Falcon. :)

Compared to the falcon, it flys a little faster, stays up a little longer, and has less roll response.

Nice looking wing.
Place your wing add in the "Classified" section here on the Org.

I agree with Tom. I've owned my Pulse 10M for 5 years and it's been a great wing to take me to H3. A blast to ridge soar, very predictable, and easy to set up and pack away. The major problem I've seen on most Pulse wings including mine is the delamination (peeling of clear plastic outside layer) of the leading edge. Some gliders look like a tree losing it's leaves. I had my LE replaced at North Wing (dacron), and I also had mylar inserts made to replace the foam inserts. Made a sweet flying glider even better! Kamron Blevins at North Wing did the work. He said the glider still is in such demand it was definitely worth the investment.

I'm just now seriously considering a higher performance glider, but if I don't upgrade for another year, I'll still enjoy every minute flying the Pulse.

Brent -

I sent you an email about your Pulse and your ISP bounced it back to me. Rich suggested your wing to me - thats what prompted my asking :)

If your in WW this weekend we can talk about it.

Cheers,
