Some typical emotional remarks above regarding global warming. I am probably more versed in the subject than any layman in existence, including mountains of books and enough charts and graphs to bore you to tears. It's hard to debate all the misconceptions on the subject in a single forum post, so I'll limit myself to addressing the above.
1 "DON'T CONFUSE WEATHER WITH CLIMATE."
Correct. Yet whenever there is HOT weather virtually all the climate change zealots invariably cite it as proof that we are soon going to suffer the same fate as a bug under a magnifying glass. The Weather Channel does it, OZ Report does it, hell I've even heard scientists speculate that a whale swimming up the Sacramento River could be due to global warming - with no evidence whatsoever. If Al Gore et al can cite tornadoes as proof of climate change, then I reserve the right to cite 2016's lowest incidence of tornadoes in recorded history as evidence to the contrary.
2) "YOU WON'T LIKE IT AT ALL."
Maybe I will like global warming. When you visit Acapulco do you think it's a disaster area? It's ridiculous to fear climate that we normally consider a tropical paradise, and it shows how brainwashed we've become to the constant bombardment of climate change propaganda. The question is, why do climate changers ONLY equate it to fires, flood, famine and other calamities?
There are in fact vastly more BENEFITS to global warming than drawbacks.
During the Medieval Warm Period when such temperature records as we can extrapolate prove it was the warmest in history, civilization thrived on earth. Growing seasons were longer, crops were grown farther north, influenza deaths plummeted, human population surged. Today's benefits for us would include fewer weather-related traffic fatalities. Including those, many more people die from cold-related causes than from heat.
3) "THE TERM 'GLOBAL WARMING IS OUTDATED."
Right again. In fact the entire concept has proven erroneous and so the terminology had to be changed. Al Gore's dire timelines have come and gone. Even the most die hard grant-funded NASA scientists admit that there has been absolutely ZERO global warming in the last decade. But how to keep the public in fear so they continue to support scientific grants...hmm. The term "climate change" also safely covers ANY atmospheric eventuality; I just read an article today which claimed climate change could result in abnormally cold, harsh winters - WTF? Since it can refer to ANY weather, "climate change" is a win, win for its supporters.
4) "BUT NOT A SINGLE SNOWFLAKE ON OUR SUMMITS"
But as I write this most of the western US is under what the National Weather Service" terms "UNPRECEDENTED" snowfall.
Why does 'climate change" only occur in places you and I can never and will never visit, and thus cannot verify - the Antarctic, etc? They claim sea levels are rising, flooding Indian villages in Alaska; not surprisingly, they want government disaster funding $$$. Money solves everything, doesn't it? Where I live glaciers in the Cascade Mountains have actually been growing
, specifically on Mt. Shasta - highly visible from population centers and testament to the falsehoods of shrinking glaciers worldwide.
5) "WHAT IF CLIMATE CHANGE IS A HOAX AND WE END UP CREATING A BETTER WORLD FOR NOTHING?"
That's like saying, "What if I randomly start stabbing people because I might accidentally hit a bad guy."
There are better ways (plus less controversial and more economical) to create a better world. I am a staunch environmentalist. Environmentalism is a noble enough cause in itself without tying it to untenable, politically based pseudo-science that, when inevitably debunked, will destroy the credibility of the legitimate environmental movement.
When I was young, scientists were warning us about an "impending ice age." TIME, Scientific American and numerous other magazines had entire feature articles devoted to the inevitability of an ice age and how to survive it. Therefore I had an inherent skepticism of global warming. You say we have greater knowledge and data now, but I say we have the same scientific community that is fallible, and even more prone to be influenced by the promise of grant money for this hot new fear-mongering, unproveable subject. I have amassed a library of data and publications from serious scientists contradicting every premise climate change zealots have alleged. You guys need to stop reading only what you already agree with and start really researching. That's what our Oregon State Climatologist George Taylor did. When his research led him to the conclusion that climate change was a lie, the Governor fired him - proving that climate change is definitely more political than scientific. For those of you heavy into science, his research can be found at:
