I get two hours cruising (6,500 rpm, level flight) on a single 4.5-liter external tank. Having a second external tank is a great help for those long runs into a headwind, when you punch out 30-40 km to a scenic spot.
Here's a video of my flight of 2 hrs. 36 min. that was 45 km along the peninsula into a 10 km/h headwind. I used all of the first tank and about a fifth of the second one. The siphon system is worry free, just as long as the master tank has an airtight seal on its cap. (Don't forget to open the air intake of the slave tank.)
Should we go back to our roots?
