I want to maintain the electric starter motor (the 3MG16552 model manufactured by Fiem Electromechanica). I have read the Radne Electric Starter Disassembly section on http://wind-drifter.com

I imagine that the main maintenance issues are:

- Wearing down and need for eventual replacement of the brushes
- Cleaning out the carbon dust from the brushes that will build up inside the starter engine housing
- Lubrication of the Bendix drive engagement mechanism

I have only had my unit for 1 season (over 50 flights). I have heard from other Mosquito NRG owners that the starter motors can fail (they didn't service their starter motors). I only have electric starting, so I want to maintain my starter motor, to minimize the risk of failure.

What have your experiences been with starter motor failure and/or servicing? How robust are these units? How often do you service them and what would you do?
