Hmm, when started in the late 70s, there was a guy flying his EXO7 seated, smoking his pipe ( no pot i guess ) while flying.. Totally relaxed.Rebardan wrote:Fly fishing and smoking a pipe while hang gliding. Oh wait, add some scotch whiskey too. Purity in motion.
This is one of those questions where the answer depends on however people want to define things.. as there is no technical definition. If you choose to go with a subjective approach, maybe it *feels* more or less "pure" to you.. which is fine and dandy if you happen to feel either way.hangmorethan10 wrote:Quote from email I sent to friend, "Dan Howitt says, is foot launched powered hang gliding a more pure form of hang gliding?" What do you's all think?
So an eHG is basically Viagra for old HG pilots -- so you don't have to worry about getting it up.dayhead wrote:I started RC gliding about a year before I took up Hg.
For a long time I was a purist, and preached that adding a motor to the RC was blasphemy.
Now after all these years I've come around, and find that the RC gliders I fly primarily on the slope mostly have an electric motor and folding prop.
The slopes I fly are covered with huge thick brush, big rocks, and rattlesnakes. Making the "Walk of Shame" down the hill to retrieve a glider lost in a sink cycle is no longer an option, I'm just to old and decrepit for it. Nowadays when I lose the lift I easily add power for a few seconds and get back up to launch height.
I rarely fly Hg XC. If I had an electric powered harness I'd do a lot more of it. Much less fear of having to use a bailout I've never seen before.
I think that "purism" is a luxury for the younger and less experienced pilots. It's totally forgivable for we seniors to have a motor.
NO no no no, so "we" do not have to worry about keeping it up....so you don't have to worry about getting it up.
