I know some of the many advantages using a drag chute....
Shorter field capability
Shorter period in the critical rounding out phase
Ability to land downslope
Ability to escape cloudsuck? {unsure of that one}
There"s probably a few more ....Now i only get about 30? hours a year these days, i"m lucky i have so many total hrs i can go 4-5wks then leap off a mtn and it all comes together again however i don"t have time to re-adapt my technique....was there much of a learning curve to sorting out then becoming familiar with a drag chute?...Boy i wish the manufacturers could sort out retractable airbrakes
