I would think the screen would stay on while shooting video and kill the battery faster. Plus, there are cheaper alternatives that would be less painful to swallow if something happened to it:

I have an SJCAM M10 that was ~$70 and came with the waterproof case. Shoots in 1080, has a full-color screen on the back (can set the screen to turn off after a certain amount of time), and uses microSD cards. I made an aluminum channel mount for mine (has split rubber tubing on the edges of the channel for grip/protection) that goes on my keel:

Yep, I've even made phone calls and sent texts :)
There's a version of the new iPhone 8+ that has 256G of memory ....... VERY pricey at $949 though!
I've used an iPhone 6+ recently. Since I'm up north I don't expect to be flying with the phone on my basetube during winter though. It is best used with bare hands.
