Hi guys,
I'll be traveling to Spain soon, I actually go there very often. This time I'm traveling with Delta Airlines to Boston, staying a few days there with my parents, and then with Iberia to Madrid.
Iberia allows hang gliders up to 138in, take a look at the "Sports Equipment" on their website, not an issue. My Sport 2 (135) is 135in when packed for traveling. The issue is most all other airlines.
Delta allows other wind sports equipment, like Windsurfing Boards or Kiteboards, but I see nothing about hang glider on their site. If I take my hang glider with me, I could fool them and tell them that it's a windsurfing board, since most people that work at the airport know very little about this subject. But the issue is the dimensions, I'm allowed only up to 115in and 70lbs.
Has anyone here ever taken their hang glider with Delta Airlines? I know lots of people take their bigger gliders to comps all over the world all the time. How do you do it?
I'm planning on keeping the Sport 2 in Spain since I'm ordering a topless very soon.
PS: I did call the Delta and asked them. The lady that picked up the phone was very incompetent and after about 20 minutes, she found the Sports Equipment section on their website and read it out loud to me - waste of time!
Thanks!
