Currently when I try to access https://forum.hanggliding.org I get a "This site can't be reached" message.
The plain-text (non secure) http://forum.hanggliding.org works perfectly fine.
However, this represents a security threat as when I login to the forums, my username & password combination is sent as plain text through the cable, making it very easy for attackers to get a hold of my credentials.
Same for any other user of the forum.

It would be great if the whole website, including the forum, classifieds, wiki, etc., were protected with some good ol' SSL certificate.
Before it was difficult and expensive to get a hold of such a cert. Nowadays is pretty easy AND also free. Check https://letsencrypt.org/

That would be nice indeed. Biggest problem is that many people use the same password for website and other things like their email. So if their password leaks their email gets owned, and from there hackers can get all sorts of access including to banking info.
